River Park Trail Ride

In early June, the water from damns upstream of the El Paso segment of the Rio Grande released water into the river. Water is flowing through the Rio Grande, making the River Park Trail segment of the Paso Del Norte Trail a special place this time of the year!

The River Park Trail segment of the PdN Trail is 10.5-miles long one-way -- 21 miles roundtrip. Walk, jog, run, roll, or ride down the trail to see Rio Grande full of water, different birds and other wildlife, and native plants. The trail is shaded in the early morning along most of the segment due to large plants and trees that line the river.

On June 26, 20 cyclists gathered to ride 14 miles of the trail. Mr. Gilbert Anaya from International Boundary and Water Commission rode along with us to explain hydrology of the river, restoration efforts along the floodplain, and how water planning is changing in the face of climate change.
